Em 2018, o ministro<a href=\"http:\/\/https\/\/agenciabrasil.ebc.com.br\/justica\/noticia\/2018-06\/stf-decide-que-guardas-municipais-podem-portar-armas-de-fogo\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">\u00a0suspendeu dois artigos do Estatuto do Desarmamento<\/a>, aprovado em 2003, que limitava o porte de armas com base no n\u00famero de habitantes do munic\u00edpio.<\/p>\n<p>Pela norma, os guardas das capitais e de munic\u00edpios com mais de 500 mil habitantes conseguiram autoriza\u00e7\u00e3o para andar armados. No trabalho e tamb\u00e9m nos momentos de folga. Quem trabalhava em munic\u00edpios com mais 50 mil e menos de 500 mil pessoas s\u00f3 poderia usar armamento em servi\u00e7o. Por sua vez, nos lugares com menos de 50 mil habitantes, o porte foi totalmente proibido.<\/p>\n<p>A decis\u00e3o foi motivada por uma a\u00e7\u00e3o do DEM.
